Our program offers a variety of certificates in gerontology. Students
wishing to apply for admission into any of the programs should first contact
the Gerontology Program office prior to initiating coursework.

- Academic Certificate
in Gerontology (DOC)
The academic certificate in gerontology may be earned in conjunction
with any academic major or by individuals not seeking a degree but
whose professional responsibilities relate to older adults. The program
offers a wide variety of courses from more than 10 different academic
departments ranging from biology to theater. With an emphasis on both
classroom study and practical field experience, the program provides
students with the knowledge and skills needed to better understand
and work with a variety of older adult populations.

WebCT Gerontology Certificate (PDF) The
University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the University of Nevada,
Reno (UNR) Gerontology Programs in concert with Nevada State College
(NSC) and the Nevada Geriatric Education Center are pleased to offer
an online option for their respective academic certificate programs.
This option encompasses Distance Education courses in Gerontology offered
by each institution.

Admission Information
In order to earn either a Bachelor of University Studies degree with an
emphasis in Gerontology, an Academic Certificate in Gerontology, or a Systemwide
Online Gerontology Certificate, you must be an admitted student at UNLV. You
can initially begin taking classes as a non-degree seeking student but must
apply for admission prior to earning the certificate.
Listed below are general admission requirements. For more specific information
about admission to UNLV, please visit the admissions
website.
Admission Requirements – Freshman
If you have NOT taken any college coursework, you must meet the following
requirements:
- Have graduated from an accredited or approved high school with
a 2.75 weighted grade point average in English (4 units), Mathematics
(3 units), Social Science (3 units), and Natural Science (3 units).
- Provide a high school transcript.
- Have test scores of a
minimum 1040 SAT (combined reading/math) or a 22 ACT (composite).
Admission Requirement – Transfer
If you do not meet freshman requirements, or if you have taken ANY college
coursework, you must meet the following requirements:
- Complete 24 or more transferable credits at a regionally accredited
college or university and earn a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher.
Once these requirements have been met, you will qualify for transfer
student admission to UNLV and your high school transcripts will no
longer be needed.
- Provide transcripts from all colleges or universities
that you have attended.
